On August 10, 2026, Colombia experienced a powerful earthquake that was felt across several regions of the country, causing damage to homes, infrastructure, and communities.

In response to an emergency of this magnitude, relief initiatives quickly began to mobilize from different areas. At IFC, we also wanted to contribute by identifying a specific cause where our support could make a meaningful difference.
That is how we learned about older adults whose homes had been affected. Their stories, and the importance of helping restore a safe and dignified place for them to live, especially inspired us to take action.
For this reason, IFC made a financial contribution to support the rebuilding of these homes in the municipality of Vijes, Valle del Cauca. Although our contribution represents only one part of a much larger collective effort, it comes from a genuine desire to support those facing particularly vulnerable circumstances.
Colombia holds an important place within IFC’s presence in Latin America. It is one of the countries where projects are currently being developed, and it is also the home country of three members of our coordinator network. This connection made what happened especially meaningful to our organization.
At IFC, we understand that behind every project and every relationship are people and communities. Our work goes beyond creating business opportunities; we also believe in the importance of being present when circumstances give us the opportunity to make a positive contribution.

A home represents much more than a physical structure: it means security, stability, memories, and a sense of belonging. For an older adult, restoring that space after an event like this takes on an even deeper meaning.
This contribution was our way of supporting a small part of the rebuilding process and reaffirming our belief that the relationships we build can also become opportunities to serve and contribute.
We extend our special thanks to the Municipality of Vijes, whose support was instrumental in helping this assistance reach the homes and individuals who needed it most. We also sincerely thank everyone who helped facilitate this effort and served as a bridge between our initiative and the community.
Colombia, we stand with you.
